What you get

  • The same teacher every week. Not a rotating roster, not whoever is available. Me.
  • A group small enough to talk in. Capped at 10 students so every one of them gets to ask a question out loud.
  • Every session recorded. A missed week isn't a lost week — the recording is yours.
  • Live online. Join from anywhere. No driving, no centre, no commute eating the afternoon.
  • Month to month. Cancel any time before the next month starts — no term, no contract.

This is for you if

  • • You've taught your own child math successfully — and algebra is where that stopped working.
  • • Your student is roughly 13–17 and ready for Algebra 1 or Algebra 2.
  • • You want a real teacher, not a self-paced video library.
  • • You'd rather your student learn alongside a few others than alone.

This is not for you if

  • • You need someone to get tonight's homework answered.
  • • Your student needs one-to-one attention every session — ask me about private hours instead.
  • • You want a fully self-paced course with no fixed meeting time.

Who's teaching

I'm Michael Seutin. I tutor math in the Vallejo and Napa area and online, and I've been doing it long enough to know exactly where students come unstuck in algebra — it's almost never where the parent expects.

You'll be dealing with me directly, from the first email through every session. That's the whole point of a small group.

My daughter asked her teacher if she could use the technique she learned from her tutor because it’s easier for her to understand. Thankfully, the teacher had no problem with it. What I really love is how he’s able to make math make sense. She went from tears to confidence, and it clearly shows in her grades.

Michael is truly a MathJitsu master. And he’s extremely accommodating with scheduling, always 100% punctual, and flexible with meeting locations, either at home or, in my case, a local Starbucks. If you’re in the American Canyon area and need a math tutor, you would be doing yourself a disservice not to give him a call.

Michael saved my grade in Calc. I was totally lost on integration techniques and series, but he breaks things down step-by-step without rushing. He doesn't just give you the answer—he actually teaches you how to think through the problems yourself. After three sessions, things finally clicked. Highly recommend!

Questions people actually ask

How much does a math tutor cost?

Private math tutoring in the US typically runs $25–$80 an hour, and test-prep companies charge a good deal more — The Princeton Review lists $175 an hour. I charge $50 an hour online and $60 an hour in person. The small group class is $99 a month, which works out to around $25 a session.

How much do the small group classes cost?

$99 per month, per student. That's four live one-hour sessions a month plus a recording of every session. Billing is month to month with no term — cancel any time before the next month starts.

Is a group class as good as one-on-one?

For most students yes, and sometimes better — hearing another student ask the question yours was too unsure to ask is genuinely useful. Groups are capped at 10 so everyone gets to speak. If your student needs undivided attention every single session, private tutoring is the better fit, and I'll tell you that rather than sell you a seat.

Do you tutor math online?

Yes. Every small group class meets live online, so your student can join from anywhere. Private tutoring is available online too, or in person around Vallejo and Napa.

What if my student misses a class?

Every session is recorded and the recording goes to enrolled students. A missed week isn't a lost week.

Who actually teaches the class?

I do — Michael Seutin, every session. Same teacher every week, not a rotating roster. Mathjitsu is rated 5.0 on Google by local families.
