What chemistry tutoring covers
From a first high school chemistry class to AP Chemistry and college general chemistry. The AP course outline comes from College Board.
High school chemistry
Regular or honors chemistry: atoms and the periodic table, bonding, moles and stoichiometry, gases, solutions, and acids and bases.
AP Chemistry
College Board calls it an introductory college-level chemistry course. Its nine units:

The AP Chemistry exam, May 2027
The AP Chemistry exam is on Thursday, May 6, 2027, in the afternoon, in the first week of AP exams. It has two halves that count the same:
Multiple choice
60 questions in 90 minutes, half the score.
Written questions
7 questions in 105 minutes, the other half: 3 long questions worth 10 points each and 4 short ones worth 4 points each.
That's 3 hours 15 minutes of testing in all. The exam is hybrid: your kid answers the multiple choice in the Bluebook app, reads the written questions there too, and writes those answers by hand in a paper booklet. A calculator is allowed on both halves: a scientific or graphing one, or the Desmos calculator built into Bluebook. College Board also provides reference materials, such as equation sheets and reference tables.

Questions parents ask
How hard is AP Chemistry?
It's a college-level course, and the exam asks for more than memorized facts. Half of it is 7 written questions, where your kid works through multi-step calculations and explains in words why a result makes sense. Most of the math is algebra.
What math do you need for chemistry?
Algebra, mostly: rearranging equations, ratios for stoichiometry, scientific notation, and logarithms for pH in AP Chemistry. If the algebra is what slows your kid down, Mathjitsu tutors math too.
What does a chemistry tutor do?
A chemistry tutor works through your kid's own course with them, 1-on-1: the idea behind each topic first, then the problems, step by step, until your kid can do them alone. The class calendar sets the plan, so the next test, or the May exam in AP Chemistry, is always the target.
